The Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 and Svartpilen 250 will reach the Indian market in February 2020. Before the quarter-litre Husqvarna bikes are launched in the Indian market, KTM India will introduce its much-awaited product, the 390 Adventure, which is expected to arrive this month (January 2020).

In latest updates, a report from Autocar India claims that the 390 Adventure will not be the only model heading to the KTM India showrooms this month. According to the website, KTM India will also introduce the BS-VI variants of the RC 390, 390 Duke and the 250 Duke before the end of January 2020.

The source report mentions that the Indian launch of the BS-VI KTM motorcycles will take place in a phased manner. According to the report, the 250 Duke will be the first product to arrive with the BS-VI compliance. The quarter-litre Duke motorcycle will be followed by the BS-VI iterations of the 390 Duke and the RC 390 respectively. The BS-VI 200 Duke and RC 200 will arrive by the end of January. Lastly, the BS-VI 125 Duke and RC 125 are expected to arrive in March 2020.

The updated models are not likely to carry a visual overhaul over the old (BS-IV) motorcycles. This will be done to keep the price increase during the BS-VI transition minimal. The BS-VI upgrade is likely to result in a substantial price increase over the old (BS-IV) models, and we could look at an INR 10,000-15,000 hike in the ex-showroom tags.

While KTM India is yet to announce the launch details for the aforementioned models, the company had confirmed in December last year that the 390 Adventure will arrive in January 2020. In fact, the pre-bookings for the motorcycle have already commenced at several KTM dealerships across the country.

To give you a recap, the India-spec 390 Adventure will miss adjustable front forks in order to keep the costs low and prices competitive. All other features will be carried forward from the international-spec model that was unveiled at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show. In fact, the India-spec model will feature a quick-shifter as standard.

BS-VI compliant KTM motorcycles to be showcased at India Bike Week - Report https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-compliant-ktm-motorcycles-showcased-india-bike-week-p319007 Tue, 26 Nov 2019 06:52:30 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319007 KTM India will be showcasing the new KTM 390 Adventure at India Bike Week this year. However, that’s not all. A new report from Autocar India says that the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer will be showcasing the BS-VI compliant models of its Indian line-up at the annual motorcycling extravaganza.

Ktm 390 Adventure Front Three Quarter
The KTM 390 Adventure will be launched in India at India Bike Week 2019 (6-7 December 2019).

The report adds that the first BS-VI compliant models to go on sale will be the KTM Duke 390, KTM Duke 250 and KTM RC390. The fully-faired RC 390 was showcased recently at EICMA 2019 in new colour options. The 373 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine produces 43 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque. We expect the torque to increase to 37 PS in the fully-faired motorcycle, bringing it in line with the naked and the adventure motorcycles based on the 390 platform.

All three of these machines will undergo a price hike of around INR 15,000 and deliveries will begin from 20 December 2019. This latest price hike does make the 390s fairly expensive. However, given the hardware and performance figures, they remain some of the most value for money offerings in the segment.

Post these three, KTM India will be launching their breadwinners, KTM Duke 125 and KTM RC 125 in January 2020. The performance figures of these to bikes will also remain similar to the BS-IV compliant options. Besides that, the price hike is expected to be in the range of INR 8,000 to INR 10,000.

The report also mentions that deliveries of the new KTM Duke 200 will begin only in February 2020. However, there is no mention of the KTM RC 200.

The KTM RC 390 will gain a new colour option soon.

KTM may even showcase the long-awaited Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 at India Bike Week this year. Both the motorcycles will be positioned at a premium than the KTM Duke 390 and KTM RC 390.

The distinctive livery brings the Red Bull logo and branding, along with KTM and Motorex decals, to the KTM RC 200. The Red Bull logo can be seen on the visor and the fairing, while the brand tag is present on the front fender and the fairing. The 200 cc motorcycle gets an Akrapovic decal but continues to use stock, underbelly exhaust system from the factory. KTM has announced no plans to offer the livery on a mass scale. However, the brand provides sticker sets for its products to enhance the visuals.

The mechanical specifications of the MotoGP livery quipped KTM RC200 are no different from the regular model. The motorcycle uses the familiar 199.5cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with fuel injection tech that churns out 25 PS of maximum power at 10,000 rpm and 19.2 Nm of maximum torque at 8,000 revs. The motor sends power to the back wheel via a six-speed gearbox. The motorcycle sheds speed using a 280 mm and a 230 mm single disc at the front and back respectively. In India, the bike is sold with a single-channel ABS as standard.

Other premium hardware on the KTM RC200 include twin-pod projector headlight, LED tail lamp, LED blinkers, upside-down telescopic forks at the front, adjustable monoshock suspension at the back and a fully-digital instrument console.

Thus, propelling tasks are performed by a 199.5cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder, fuel-injected engine that delivers 25 PS of maximum power at 10,000 rpm and 19.2 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 revs. The motor comes mated with a six-speed gearbox.

The KTM RC200 black variant is launched in India at a price of INR 1.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Earlier this month, KTM India confirmed that the KTM 390 Adventure will be launched in India in 2019.

KTM RC200 Black colour variant front quarter
The new KTM RC 200 Black Colour Edition looks similar to the RC 390, with the only differences being that the inner fairing and decal colours are inverted.

The new black colour scheme becomes only the second colour option on the KTM RC200 along with the existing white paint scheme. In essence, the RC200 is the only motorcycle in the KTM RC range to get two colour options, whereas the KTM RC390 continues to be available with a single colour. KTM India is offering the RC 200 Black Colour at the same prices as that of the regular variant without charging any premium.

The KTM RC200 black colour variant looks largely similar to the RC390 with slight variations in the graphics. The bike gets orange coloured trellis frame and wheels, while the bodywork is gloss black. The RC200 black colour gets white and orange body decals, however, as compared to the RC390, the decals on the RC 200 are inverted. For instance, the inner fairing on the RC200 is finished in white, while the outer fairing sports orange decals.

As far as performance is concerned, the bike remains unchanged. The KTM RC200 sources its power from a 199.5cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that is capable of producing 25.5 bhp of maximum power and 19.2 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed transmission. Equipment list includes projector headlamps and a digital instrument cluster.

KTM RC200 Black colour variant side profile
KTM has priced the Black Colour Edition similarly at INR 1.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) as compared to the White Colour option. The RC200 still misses out on ABS.

The bike gets its stopping power from disc brakes on both the ends; however, ABS is sorely missed. That said, ABS will be made mandatory on all bikes in India above 125cc from April 2019. Suspension duties are shouldered by upside-down fork upfront along with a preload-adjustable mono-shock at the rear.

Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox the engine is capable of producing 43.5 PS of maximum power at 9,000 rpm and 36 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm (increased from 35 Nm). The 2017 KTM RC390 gets a new side-mounted canister exhaust system, helping the mini sports bike turn more eco-friendly and meet BSIV compliance. It also features a bigger diameter 320 mm front disc adding to the stopping power of the motorcycle. The 2017 KTM RC390 continues to have dual channel ABS as standard.

The bike draws power from the same 373 cc single cylinder, liquid-cooled mill coupled to a six-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch. The engine is capable of 43.5 PS of maximum power at 9,000 rpm and 36 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm (up from 35 Nm). The addition of a new exhaust system though raises the kerb weight of the bike by 4 kg, registering at 170 kg.

The KTM RC390 in India is also expected to gain ride by wire, a feature which has been present in the European 2016 models but skipped for India. All this, however, guarantees a small price hike.
