It is loved by the enthusiasts and the budding riders who are in the process of honing their skills of riding a supersport motorcycle. The RC 390 is admired for its sharp styling, aggressive riding stance, raw power-delivery, and spot-on dynamics. However, owners are often seen wanting more from their possessions. Hence coming across a modified example is not a tough job either. We recently came across a tuned KTM RC 390, which now gets a quick shifter and a custom ECU remap. The motorcycle belongs to YouTuber Jhampa66, and the aforementioned modifications have been detailed in the video.

In the video, the host explains the modifications that he has performed on his motorcycle. Also, he explains the procedure of remapping a motorcycle by installing a PowerTRONIC ECU. In general, installing a custom ECU requires a remap for the fueling, ignition timing, and other controlled parameters for obtaining the best possible results. However, with the PowerTRONIC ECU, the case is a little different. The brand provides a ready-to-install map for the users.

The host showcases its installation in the video. He downloads the application on his laptop, which is required to install the map. Then, he follows a set of steps on the PowerTRONIC application to install the custom ECU map. After which, the host downloads the required map from PowerTRONIC’s website and finally installs the map. Moreover, the host also explains the parameters, which have to be set in the ECU application for the installation of the quick shifter.

BS-VI compliant KTM motorcycles to be showcased at India Bike Week - Report https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-compliant-ktm-motorcycles-showcased-india-bike-week-p319007 Tue, 26 Nov 2019 06:52:30 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319007 KTM India will be showcasing the new KTM 390 Adventure at India Bike Week this year. However, that’s not all. A new report from Autocar India says that the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer will be showcasing the BS-VI compliant models of its Indian line-up at the annual motorcycling extravaganza.

Ktm 390 Adventure Front Three Quarter
The KTM 390 Adventure will be launched in India at India Bike Week 2019 (6-7 December 2019).

The report adds that the first BS-VI compliant models to go on sale will be the KTM Duke 390, KTM Duke 250 and KTM RC390. The fully-faired RC 390 was showcased recently at EICMA 2019 in new colour options. The 373 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine produces 43 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque. We expect the torque to increase to 37 PS in the fully-faired motorcycle, bringing it in line with the naked and the adventure motorcycles based on the 390 platform.

All three of these machines will undergo a price hike of around INR 15,000 and deliveries will begin from 20 December 2019. This latest price hike does make the 390s fairly expensive. However, given the hardware and performance figures, they remain some of the most value for money offerings in the segment.

Post these three, KTM India will be launching their breadwinners, KTM Duke 125 and KTM RC 125 in January 2020. The performance figures of these to bikes will also remain similar to the BS-IV compliant options. Besides that, the price hike is expected to be in the range of INR 8,000 to INR 10,000.

The report also mentions that deliveries of the new KTM Duke 200 will begin only in February 2020. However, there is no mention of the KTM RC 200.

2020 Ktm Rc 390 Showcased At Eicma With Power Part
The KTM RC 390 will gain a new colour option soon.

KTM may even showcase the long-awaited Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 at India Bike Week this year. Both the motorcycles will be positioned at a premium than the KTM Duke 390 and KTM RC 390.

Apart from confirming its participation, KTM also said in the statement that it will make ‘key announcements’ at the event in Goa. The two-wheeler manufacturer has not mentioned a launch or an unveiling in its statement. However, several reports have indicated that the company will introduce the new 390 Adventure at the 2019 India Bike Week.

KTM’s newest adventure tourer made debut at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy earlier this week (5 November). The production-spec model will feature several premium features such as traction control system, adjustable front and rear suspension, full LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled colour TFT-display with turn-by-turn navigation.

The motorcycle will share its underpinnings and engine with the 390 Duke. Thus, the spec sheet includes a 373.2 single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine that pumps out a peak power output of 43 hp and a maximum torque of 37 Nm – the exact same numbers as the 390 Duke roadster.

While KTM has not confirmed any details about the 390 Adventure, it has announced that it will display flagship production models from each platform at the motoring event in Goa. Dakar Rally, Moto3 & MotoGP bikes will also be on display at the brand’s stall.

KTM owners in the country can purchase an exclusive Orange Pass that is available at a discounted price of INR 1,600. The pass offers the following benefits:

  • Two-day entry ticket for the India Bike Week
  • Exclusive KTM Fan Package (includes KTM branded T-shirt, poncho and wrist bands worth appx. INR 1,100)

Orange pass buyers will also get a chance to be a part of the Orange Parade on 6 December, and an opportunity to meet and greet KTM International Athletes and Ambassadors at the KTM stall.

The Austrian brand will also organize KTM Power Rides to Goa from Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune. The KTM Power Ride will be backed by service support, pitstops and ambulance facilities.

Speaking on the brand’s participation at the 2019 India Bike Week, Sumeet Narang, President (Probiking) at Bajaj Auto Ltd., said:

KTM’s presence at India Bike Week, one of the country’s premium biking property, gives us an opportunity to engage with the hardcore biking enthusiasts through high quality content. Our theme for this year’s event is “Let’s paint IBW Orange”, which is a call out to our KTM owners to participate & attend the festival in large numbers. The event will be attended by the senior management of KTM India & KTM AG, Austria, and we are looking at making some key announcements during the 2 day festival.

2020 KTM RC 390 - IAB Rendering https://indianautosblog.com/2020-ktm-rc390-iab-rendering-p318770 Fri, 08 Nov 2019 05:36:13 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=318770 The next-generation KTM RC 390 is now under development and is being tested on the roads. The upcoming model will pack hardware and visual upgrades over the current bike.

2020 Ktm Rc 390 Ian Rendering Final
The latest rendering tries to give a glimpse at the next-gen KTM RC 390.

The 2020 KTM RC 390 has shown itself on several occasions through spy photographs. Based on the spy images, we asked our in-house render artist Shoeb Kalania to create a digital image of the 2020 model. The upcoming bike, like the current vehicle, will carry sporty styling. Thus, you would see the full-fairing design and a windscreen for better aerodynamics than the city-oriented Duke range. The windscreen on the 2020 iteration will be tweaked for a refreshed look to the front fascia.

The twin-pod, projector-style headlight, too, will be traded for a new setup. The 2020 RC 390 will retain the full-LED lighting (blinkers, taillight and headlight) setup as standard. More changes will be visible to the cockpit, and the motorcycle will have a 390 Duke-sourced full-colour TFT-display with Bluetooth capabilities instead of the orange-backlit LCD screen. We would really like to see a lap timer on the upcoming RC390 – a feature that is available on its rival, the TVS Apache RR 310.

The fuel tank will also get a few styling changes for an updated look, although we do not expect to see a major difference in the storage capacity. The current model, for reference, can store 10 litres of fuel. The saddle layout will retain the split-style, step-up design. However, the new bike may drop the rear-cowl-style design for the pillion seat.

Major changes will also come to the chassis and the engine. The 2020 KTM RC 390, like the 390 Duke, will feature a bolted sub-frame. The engine, on the other hand, will receive tweaks and additional hardware to comply with the Euro-V/BS-VI emission norms. The current RC 390, for reference, uses a Euro-IV/BS-IV compliant 373.2 cc single-cylinder, 4-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine that pumps out 43.5 PS of peak power at 9,000 rpm and 36 Nm of max torque at 7,000 rpm. The engine will continue to use an assist/slipper clutch system and a six-speed transmission.

Braking and suspension department should not receive major tweaks. Thus, the anchoring power will come from a 320 mm disc with a four-piston calliper at the front and a 230 mm disc with a single-piston calliper at the back. Dual-channel ABS will govern the braking department. Suspension setup will retain the 43 mm, inverted forks at the front and a pre-load adjustable mono-shock at the back.

Ktm Upcoming Product Portfolio
The upcoming KTM RC 390 will be joined by a new RC product, among the other 2020 vehicles, at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy.

Apart from the RC 390, KTM is also expected to bring out a new RC product that will use the company’s newly developed 499 cc parallel-twin cylinder engine. More on that, and other 2020 products here.

Exclusive: KTM supersport RC range to max out at RC 490; no RC 790 or RC 890 on cards https://indianautosblog.com/exclusive-ktm-supersport-rc-range-to-max-out-with-rc490-p318605 Sat, 05 Oct 2019 13:00:10 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=318605 KTM’s supersport range of motorcycles currently includes the RC 125, RC 200, RC 250 and the RC 390. We had earlier confirmed that KTM will be launching an RC490 in the future. That will be the highest displacement RC model from the company for the foreseeable future. This means that an RC 790 or RC 890 will not be seeing the light of the day anytime soon!

2017 KTM RC 390 right side at 2017 Thai Motor Expo
The KTM RC 490 will possibly get a similar body structure as the KTM RC 390 pictured here.

This also means that the rumoured flagship, limited-run KTM RC16 (based on their MotoGP contender) will also remain a pipe dream. The new flagship supersport offering by KTM, the RC 490, is expected to be manufactured at Bajaj-KTM’s Chakan facility in Pune.

Our regular readers will remember that Indian Autos Blog had earlier confirmed that the 490 range will comprise 5 twin-cylinder models. Taking in to account the 43.5 PS of power, the upcoming KTM RC 490 is expected to produce around 55 PS to 60 PS. That would make the KTM RC 390 the most powerful fully-faired supersport motorcycle from the house of KTM.

The KTM RC490 will be suspended over an upside-down fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear, both sourced from WP Suspension, a KTM Group subsidiary. We would love to see the supersport motorcycle to be fitted with adjustable preload in the front. Braking duties will be administered by discs at both ends. What will be interesting to see is whether the KTM RC 490 be shod with twin discs at the front or a large single unit. Switchable dual-channel ABS will be standard.

We also expect the KTM RC 490 to get more electronic riding aids including traction control and riding modes. The usual plethora of slipper clutch and ride by wire will continue to be standard. Besides that, KTM’s flagship supersport offering RC 490 will also get adjustable levers and switchable ABS.

Ktm 790 Duke First Ride Review Profile Right Front
The recently introduced KTM 790 Duke or upcoming KTM 890 Duke will not extrapolate to a fully-faired supersport RC 790 or RC 890 any time soon.

More details about the upcoming flagship KTM RC 490 are expected to be revealed later next month at EICMA 2019.

Upcoming faired bikes under 500cc in India by 2020 - Yamaha R3, KTM RC 390... https://indianautosblog.com/upcoming-faired-bikes-yamaha-r3-ktm-rc-390-aprilia-rs-150-p316336 Fri, 08 Feb 2019 11:44:08 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=316336 The entry-level performance motorcycle segment is bustling with the introduction of quite a few new offerings. The Indian consumers have an obsession with fully faired bikes, and no wonder the Yamaha R15 V3.0 sells like hotcakes. Here's a list of upcoming sports bikes in India under 500cc, which includes the 2020 KTM RC 390, new Yamaha R3, and the Aprilia RS150 among others.

KTM RC 250

2017 KTM RC 250 studio right side
The KTM RC 250 is manufactured in India and exported to KTM's global markets.

KTM India is now facing fierce competition from Royal Enfield, TVS and BMW. To offset the negative growth, KTM could consider introducing new motorcycles in India, and the RC 250 could be one of them. The KTM RC 250 was spotted testing in India in October 2017.

Based on the KTM RC 390 platform, the RC 250 use the same chassis and mechanical as that of its elder sibling. The KTM RC 250 draws power from a 248.8cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor that produces 31 bhp and 24 Nm of peak torque. The engine works with a six-speed gearbox and a standard slipper clutch. We can expect the RC 250 to be launched around INR 2 lakh (ex-showroom).

2019 Yamaha R3

2019 Yamaha R3 Images Front Three Quarters Yamaha
The 2019 Yamaha R3 could receive heavy localisation in India to keep the prices under check.

The 2019 Yamaha R3 debuted in Indonesia in October 2018 with a new design. Cosmetic updates include a new fairing with LED headlights and a faux RAM air-intake. The motorcycle also features an all-digital instrument cluster and a redesigned fuel tank, while the tail section remains unchanged.

Mechanically, the 2019 KTM RC 390 comes equipped with 37mm KYB upside-down front forks that replace the telescopic units in the old bike, while the rear continues with the link-type mono-shock setup. There aren't any changes to the engine department, and the motorcycle draws 42 PS and 29.6 Nm from its 321cc parallel-twin, liquid cooled motor that comes mated to a 6-speed transmission.

A report dated 24 January hinted that India Yamaha Motor could be looking at heavy localisation of components to keep the prices in check. The Yamaha R3 being a CKD import, we can expect it to retail around INR 3.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

2020 KTM RC 390

Ktm Rc 390 2019 By Iab

KTM is working on the next generation RC 390 range that is expected to go on sale sometime next year. The 2020 KTM RC 390 was spied testing for the first time in Europe in December last year. Based on the spy media, we brought you a speculative digital rendering of the RC 390.

The 2020 KTM RC 390 will feature a complete design overhaul and slightly revised chassis with a separate sub-frame. While it maintains the overall silhouette, the motorcycle receives new bodywork that includes a new front fascia with a vertically stacked LED headlight, a double bubble visor, bigger fuel tank and a redesigned side fairing, while the tail section remains unchanged.

The KTM RC 390 is also likely to feature an LCD TFT display for the instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and Smartphone integration. We aren't sure about the mechanical changes or engine upgrades at present. In its current form, the RC 390 uses a 373.2cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor that produces 43.5 bhp and 36 Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.

The KTM RC 390 is expected to make its debut at the EICMA 2019 in Milan, Italy and subsequently launch in India by mid-2020. We expect the new RC 390 to retail around INR 2.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Aprilia RS 150

Aprilia RS 150 right side at 2018 Auto Expo
The Aprilia RS 150 debuted in India at 2018 Auto Expo. It will rival the Yamaha R15 V3.0.

The Aprilia RS 150 debuted in India at the Auto Expo 2018 alongside the Aprilia Tuono 150. Once launched, the Aprilia RS 150 will be a direct rival to the Yamaha R15 V3.0. The motorcycle is under consideration for the Indian market, and Piaggio India's Two-wheeler business Head - Ashish Yakhmi, had confirmed to IAB in September last year, that the Aprilia RS 150 will not come before 2020. As far as pricing is concerned, the Aprilia RS 150 could retail around INR 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Aprilia RS 150 takes design inspiration from the flagship Aprilia RSV4. It features the signature triple headlamps, an aggressive riding posture, and standard dual-channel ABS and a Quickshifter. Powering the Aprilia RS 150 is a 150 cc, four-valve, single-cylinder engine with liquid cooling. The fuel injected motor pumps out 18 bhp of power at 10,000 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. The engine works in sync with a 6-speed transmission.

Suzuki Gixxer 250 SF

Suzuki GSX-250R
The Suzuki Gixxer 250 SF will take design inspiration from the flagship Suzuki GSX-R1000. (Suzuki GSX-250R pictured)

Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIPL) is reportedly working on a 250cc version of the Gixxer that is soon expected to be launched in India. According to reports, the Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be launched in H1 2019. So, it is safe to assume that the company will come up with a fully-faired version, christened Suzuki Gixxer 250 SF.

We can expect the Suzuki Gixxer 250 SF to be launched next year as a direct rival to the Yamaha Fazer 25 and the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200. It is expected to cost around INR 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom). While engine specs aren't out, a leaked report from December suggests that the Gixxer will feature a 250cc, single-cylinder motor with oil cooling and fuel injection.

Next-gen 2019 KTM RC390 - Render, specs & features expectation https://indianautosblog.com/2019-ktm-rc390-preview-p315828 Thu, 27 Dec 2018 06:39:01 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=315828 The next-generation KTM RC390 was seen for the first time earlier this month when a test mule of the upcoming motorcycle was spotted in Europe. While we are yet to hear official details about the new RC390, our in-house artist creates an image of the production-ready RC390.

KTM RC 390 2019 rendering
The expected list of updates on the 2019 KTM RC390 includes a bolted sub-frame, revised fascia with vertically stacked headlight and a TFT display.

Also read: New 500cc twin-cylinder KTM motorcycle to be manufactured by Bajaj, says Stefan Pierer

The significant change to the motorcycle is on the fascia that sees a revised headlight setup. The current generation RC390 uses twin, horizontally stacked projector headlights. The next-generation RC390 test mule was spotted with an RC8 inspired fascia having the vertically stacked headlamp. A relatively larger windscreen for better aerodynamics and windblast protection at high speeds would accompany the new headlight setup. Apart from the fascia, the fairing will receive a makeover for enhanced aerodynamics and visual pop.

Behind the windscreen sits a revised cockpit with a TFT display – a feature that is already seen on the new KTM 390 Duke (2017 onwards) motorcycles. The TFT display on the 390 Duke comes with Smartphone integration via Bluetooth, and the same will be seen on the next-generation RC390. The switchgear will also receive a 390 Duke style upgrade with switches to operate various functions on the go.

Clip-on style handlebars would perform steering duties with forward-leaning ergonomics although the riding stance will not be far too aggressive than the current generation model.

The fuel tank may receive a design upgrade, and the storage capacity of 9.5-litre is expected to see an improvement. The motorcycle would retain a step-up pillion seat that is designed to mimic a rear cowl, thus lending the RC390 a sporty look. The rear of the bike may not receive a massive design change, and we expect to see the same LED tail light setup, accompanied by LED blinkers on the next-generation model.

Another significant upgrade will come on the chassis. Similar to the current 390 Duke, the 2019 KTM RC390 will use a trellis chassis with a bolted sub-frame. The design allows the engineers to fine-tune the setup. A similar format will also be seen on the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure that was spotted in India earlier this month.

Mechanical specifications may not receive an upgrade except for compliance. Regular readers also know that Euro V and BS-VI emission norms take effect in the short-term. For reference, the current generation RC390, with its Euro IV and BS-IV compliant motor, draws 43.5 PS of maximum power at 9,000 rpm and 36 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm from its 373.2cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine.

The motor will be paired to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The upcoming model, similar to the current RC390, will use Ride-by-wire system. Bosch sourced dual channel ABS has been standard in the Indian market ever since the launch of the RC390 and the upcoming model will carry on the safety feature.

Braking and suspension setup is expected to be retained from the current generation model. Thus, stopping power will be provided by a 320mm disc brake with a four-pot calliper at the front and a 230mm disc brake with a single-pot calliper at the rear. Shock absorption tasks would be performed by WP sourced suspensions. Upside down telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the back would be carried forward on the new RC390.

Do note that the 390 Adventure test mule was seen with adjustable front forks. KTM is known to set new benchmarks with its new generation models, and we may see a premium set of front forks on the upcoming RC390. The next-generation model will continue to use Metzeler sourced rubber in 110/70 ZR 17 (front) and 150/60 ZR 17 (rear) sizes.

2017 KTM RC390 right
Similar to the previous generation, the new RC will use the chassis and engine of the 390 Duke but with revised and sportier ergonomics, low suspension travel and a completely different seat.

The motorcycle receives locally manufactured parts like alloy wheels, tyres and body panels, while the engine and chassis are imported from Thailand.

The Kawasaki Ninja 300 rivals the KTM RC390, TVS Apache RR 310, Yamaha YZF-R3 and the Benelli 302R. Powering the Kawasaki Ninja 300 is a liquid-cooled, 4-valve, parallel-twin, 296 cc engine that is capable of pumping out a maximum power of 39 PS at 11,000 rpm while developing 27 Nm of peak torque at 10,000 rpm.
