Bajaj Pulsar NS400 Rear End Rendered, Better than KTM 390 Duke? https://indianautosblog.com/bajaj-pulsar-ns400-rear-end-render-p323569 Thu, 19 Aug 2021 12:11:41 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323569 Bajaj Pulsar NS200’s fans have been waiting for a higher-spec and more powerful variant of the naked motorcycle for quite a while now. Speculations suggest that there could be a Bajaj Pulsar NS400 under development that would be based on the rumoured RS400. While these speculations and rumors' continue to grow, no official information regarding either of the two motorcycles is available as of now. But to give the fans hope, an automotive artist has created a rendering of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400 showing the rear end of the bike. And we must say, it looks much better than that of the KTM 390 Duke.

Bajaj Pulsar Ns400 Rear End Rendering
This design is certainly a head-turner.

Known as “Abin Designs” on Instagram, the automotive artist has visualised the Bajaj Pulsar NS400’s rear end and painted its digital picture. The motorcycle in the rendering looks fabulous. We can see in the picture that the LED taillamp is neatly integrated into the bodywork. It sits flush with the tail section enhancing the visual appeal. We also like the segmented design and shape of the lights. It seems that the pillion grab rails have also been integrated into the bodywork.

Also Read: Bajaj Pulsar NS400 Concept Looks Killer in Digital Render

The rear end of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400 in the rendering is missing a tail tidy which usually holds the number plate. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why the motorcycle has a cleaner rear look. Also, the wider rear tyre imparts a sportier stance. We also like the short, side-mounted exhaust.

Ktm 390 Duke Rear
KTM 390 Duke's rear end now looks outdated.

While the fuel tank design of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400 in this rendering appears to be identical to that of the NS200, there are some new elements present. For instance, the fuel tank extensions appear to be differently designed and there’s also, what appears to be, large radiator shrouds.

We find the overall design of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400’s rear end in this rendering to be captivating. It suits the naked character of the motorcycle and also brings a sportier quotient into the equation. And it also looks much better than the KTM 390 Duke’s rear end which has now become outdated.

Watch KTM 390 Duke Reach 160 kmph in Under 20 Seconds https://indianautosblog.com/ktm-390-duke-160-kmph-video-p323839 Thu, 10 Jun 2021 04:00:47 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323839 The KTM 390 Duke needs no introduction. The “orange pocket-rocket” is extremely popular not just here in India but in various other countries as well. Perhaps, the biggest reason behind its popularity is its sheer performance. Its 373cc single-cylinder engine puts out 43 PS of max power and 37 Nm of peak torque that provides phenomenal acceleration and is capable of propelling this naked streetfighter to serious speeds in no time. Don’t believe us? Watch the video below.

The video has been uploaded by YouTuber “Ayush Verma”. We can see in the footage that the KTM 390 Duke is fitted with an aftermarket exhaust that might improve the bike’s performance by a small margin. Apart from that, a much larger aftermarket crash guard has been installed as well. It must add a few kilos to the motorcycle’s overall weight.

To test out the acceleration of the KTM 390 Duke, the rider makes two attempts. In the first one, he manages to achieve 0-60 kmph in 2.95 seconds whereas the motorcycle reaches 100 kmph in just 6.77 seconds. The rider continues to push the bike further and attains 140 kmph that comes in 16.8 seconds after the launch. The top speed achieved in this attempt is 154 kmph. Perhaps, the heading is to blame.

2021 Ktm 390 Duke Right

In the second attempt, the rider launches the KTM 390 Duke brilliantly, hence, he reaches the 60 kmph mark in just 2.16 seconds and crosses 100 kmph in 5.2 seconds. The motorcycle achieves 140 kmph in 12.14 seconds and after being pushed more, 160 kmph comes up in 19.09 seconds. Regarding the top speed, the rider continues to keep the throttle wide open and we can see that the 390 Duke attains almost 170 kmph.

Going by these times, it is quite evident that the KTM 390 Duke is indeed a really quick and fast motorcycle. Apart from offering thrilling performance, it also comes equipped with several interesting features such as a fully digital instrument cluster, attractive LED DRLs, a full-LED headlight, a sculpted fuel tank, and more.

In other news, the unofficial bookings of the new KTM RC 390 are currently underway. This suggests that KTM could launch the updated RC 390 in India soon.

KTM 390 Adventure vs KTM 390 Duke - Interesting Top-End Drag Race https://indianautosblog.com/ktm-390-adventure-ktm-390-duke-drag-race-p323751 Mon, 07 Jun 2021 05:30:15 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323751 KTM 390 Adventure and KTM 390 Duke have a plethora of common parts and components. In fact, both motorcycles draw power from the same 373.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that puts out 43 bhp of max power and 37 Nm of peak torque. KTM also uses a common 6-speed gearbox on both these machines, however, the 390 Adventure comes equipped with a quickshifter whereas the 390 Duke doesn’t. With so many similarities, it would be interesting to see which one of two bikes would win in a top-end drag race. Let’s find out in the video below.

We can see in the video that the KTM 390 Adventure and KTM 390 Duke are lined up parallel to each other at the starting point. For some reason, the speedometer of the ADV isn’t working, however, the rider has enabled his action camera’s GPS which shows the actual speed of the motorcycle.

Also Read: KTM 750 Adventure Showcased via its First Digital Render

In the first attempt, both motorcycles get off the mark almost at the same time, however, we think that the KTM 390 Adventure rider has a better start as he begins to slowly pull away from the KTM 390 Duke. He is quick to gain speeds and it appears that the windscreen of the 390 Adventure is acting in his favour; well, at least for some time. The KTM 390 Duke isn’t far behind and after a few seconds, it’s able to catch his adventure sibling and even get past it. Based on the GPS data, the 390 Adventure manages to achieve a top speed of 153 kmph whereas the 390 Duke touches 156 kmph on the speedometer and wins the race.

Ktm 390 Adventure Right Side

For the second attempt, the riders switch motorcycles to keep the game fair and square. This time, it’s the KTM 390 Duke that gets off the mark first thanks to the rider’s skills. The motorcycle then takes off leaving the KTM 390 Adventure behind. We can see in the footage that the rider is properly crouched trying to reduce some windblast. As a result, he manages to reach 160 kmph (speedometer indicated). On the other hand, the 390 Adventure rider pushes the motorcycle to its limits but there’s no chance of catching the 390 Duke. The gap is so big that he can’t even try using slipstream. So, the winner of the second drag race is the 390 Duke.

2021 Ktm 390 Duke Right

Even though the KTM 390 Adventure and 390 Duke share several parts, it doesn’t mean they’re going to be equally quick; of course, there are many factors to consider in such drag races. However, we think that both motorcycles are amongst the best models in their respective segment and do what they are meant to do very well.

KTM 390 Duke Owner Gets YSS Adjustable Rear Suspension for Track Days https://indianautosblog.com/ktm-390-duke-yss-suspension-p322495 Thu, 04 Feb 2021 06:30:28 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322495 Motorcycle modification is quite common. People usually make aesthetic changes to their bikes to make them more visually appealing and stand out of the general crowd. However, not many people pay attention to one of the most important parts of a motorcycle - the suspension.

Now, there could be many reasons behind this but here are the top two. First, not everyone would like to dig deep into the intricate details about their suspension setups. Second, a good suspension setup from a reputed brand is most likely going to be quite expensive.

What other reasons can you think of? Share with us in the comments section.

But there are exceptions - riders who are well aware of the importance and benefits of a better suspension setup. One such chap can be seen in the above video which has been uploaded on YouTube by Abhinav Bhatt. It can be inferred from the footage that the rider owns a KTM 390 Duke. During his multiple track days at the Buddha International Circuit, he has realised that the rear suspension of his motorcycle is unable to keep up with the requirements of the race track. So, to improve his and his bike’s performance at the BIC, he is swapping the stock rear suspension with a YSS fully-adjustable unit that had cost him around INR 35,000.

2021 Ktm 390 Duke Rear Monoshock
The stock rear suspension of the KTM 390 Duke provides only pre-load adjustability.

YSS is a Thailand-based company that makes suspensions for a variety of motorcycles. It is quite popular amongst enthusiasts all over the world. The specific rear monoshock that is being fitted in the KTM 390 Duke in the video provides 3 adjustability options – pre-load, rebound, and height. So, the rider can fine-tune the suspension based on his body weight and needs. This would certainly help him to improve his performance on the track. We wish him good luck!

What modifications have you carried out on your motorcycle? Let us know with a comment below.

2021 KTM 390 Duke with optional Quickshifter+ reaches Europe https://indianautosblog.com/2021-ktm-390-duke-europe-p322331 Fri, 15 Jan 2021 10:30:07 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322331 The popularity of the KTM 390 Duke 2021 isn’t just limited to the Indian shores. The orange pocket-rocket has a large fan base in various global markets as well, including Europe where the MY2021 of the fun-to-ride motorcycle has been announced.

Ktm 390 Duke 2021 Front Right
KTM is now providing its Quickshifter + as an optional accessory with the new 390 Duke in Europe.

For the European markets, the KTM 390 Duke 2021 will be available in two new colour options - White and Grey - that make the already attractive-looking motorcycle even more desirable. Apart from the new colour choices, the 390 Duke’s engine has been updated to meet the stricter and more stringent Euro 5 emission regulations. Fortunately, the changes do not alter the output figures of the two-wheeler.

The Euro 5-compliant KTM 390 Duke’s motor delivers 44 hp and 37 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. While the unaltered figures would certainly be appreciated by the enthusiasts, to take the fun quotient to the next level, KTM is now providing its Quickshifter + as an optional accessory with the new 390 Duke. It is the same unit that we have experienced in the KTM 390 Adventure. It allows both up and downshifts without any clutch operation. We wonder why such an option is not available for the 390 Duke customers here in India.

No other changes have been made in the KTM 390 Duke 2021. A pair of 43mm WP Apex USD forks at the front and WP Apex monoshock at the rear handle the suspension duties. The stopping power comes from a 320mm front and 230mm rear disc brakes. For safety, there is a dual-channel ABS from Bosch which can be switched off for the rear wheel in the Supermoto mode.

The world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters had released a press statement explaining the reason behind the price hike. KTM & Husqvarna 500 cc bikes to be made in India - Report https://indianautosblog.com/ktm-husqvarna-500-cc-bikes-made-india-p320930 Wed, 17 Jun 2020 10:53:35 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320930 KTM and Husqvarna 500 cc bikes will be fully developed and made in India, Stefan Pierer, CEO, Pierer Mobility, has revealed. Bajaj Auto’s R&D centre in Pune will work on these new bikes, with the support and skills of KTM and Husqvarna’s engineers.

Ktm 890 Duke R Burnout
The 500 cc bikes from KTM and Husqvarna will fall in the premium segment in emerging markets such as ours.

Pierer Mobility has been planning 500 bikes from KTM and Husqvarna brands for a while now. However, it wasn't known whether these twin-cylinder models will be made in India yet. The company believes that the global COVID-19 situation would result in an increase in demand for low to mid-capacity bikes, especially 500 cc bikes. So, it has accelerated the development of the 500 cc bikes.

The 500 cc bikes from KTM and Husqvarna will fall in the premium segment in emerging markets such as ours. They would prove to be a good option for customers who wish to upgrade from their 125-400 cc KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles to more powerful and fun-to-ride bikes. The KTM 500 cc bikes would consist of the Duke, RC and Adventure models.

Powering the new 500 cc bikes will be a parallel-twin engine. While information regarding its power and torque output remains unknown as of now, this powerhouse will be based on the same mill which is fitted in the KTM 790 Duke, whose BS6 version is yet to be launched, and the KTM 890 Duke R, which is expected to be brought in our country in 2021. As far as the launch is concerned, the first 500 cc model is expected to be introduced sometime in 2022. It is likely to be a KTM bike.

As of now, all the KTM and Husqvarna bikes that are made in India employ single-cylinder engines. This will be the first time that a twin-cylinder bike will be produced by Bajaj Auto.

Yamaha V-Ixion modified to replicate KTM 390 Duke https://indianautosblog.com/yamaha-v-ixion-modified-into-ktm-390-duke-p320826 Wed, 03 Jun 2020 13:00:56 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320826 The KTM 390 Duke is an extremely popular naked motorcycle. Its fan base is spread around the globe. It offers quite a punchy performance and has quirky aesthetics. An Indonesian fan of the KTM 390 Duke has modified his 150 cc Yamaha V-Ixion to look like the ‘orange pocket-rocket’.

Modified Yamaha V Ixion Front 3 Quarter
One of the most prominent elements of the motorcycle that imparts the look of the KTM 390 Duke is the headlight.

To get the job done, several parts and components of the Yamaha V-Ixion were changed. One of the most prominent elements of the motorcycle that imparts the look of the KTM 390 Duke is the headlight. To further replicate look, the USD front forks of the Yamaha MT-15 have been installed. Also, the front stock wheel has been replaced by V-Rossi wheel, wrapped with a 120 mm wide Michelin tyre. The addition of another front disc brake is overkill, though.

While the sculpted fuel tank of the Yamaha V-Ixion is stock, the tail section of the motorbike is a raised one, giving a sportier stance. Also, a split seat setup has been added. Another big change that has been implemented is the replacement of the stock swingarm with that of the Yamaha R25. And taking things a notch higher is the addition of the stock exhaust of the mighty Yamaha YZF-R6.

Some of the other modifications that have been made in this customised Yamaha V-Ixion are:

  • Handlebar and front fender
  • Rear Michelin tyre
  • Aftermarket sprockets
  • Engine cover
  • Yamaha R15 front footpegs
  • Yamaha MT-15 rear footrests
  • Radiator grille
  • Custom rearview mirrors, front brake and clutch levers, and handlebar grips

The total cost of all these mods is near about IDR 18 million which converts to INR 95,756. The modified Yamaha V-Ixion does look much more muscular, bolder, and similar to the KTM 390 Duke. However, as far as performance is concerned, the 150 cc Japanese motorcycle comes nowhere close to the 373 cc Austrian streetfighter.

The stock Yamaha V-Ixion is powered by a 150 cc single-cylinder engine. It is a liquid-cooled mill which is capable of producing 12.2 kW or 16.58 PS of power at 8,500 rpm and 14.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. On the other hand, the KTM 390 Duke draws power from a high-compression 373 cc single-cylinder mill which pumps out 43.5 PS of power and 37 Nm of torque.

KTM & Husqvarna bikes to have up to 90 days of waiting period - Report https://indianautosblog.com/ktm-husqvarna-bikes-90-days-waiting-period-p320731 Fri, 22 May 2020 07:42:55 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320731 KTM and Husqvarna bikes will soon have waiting periods of up to 90 days. The duration of the waiting period will vary depending on the model.

KTM and Husqvarna have been affected by the erratic supply.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several countries around the globe enforced nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the deadly virus. India has been under lockdown since 25 March 2020 which has resulted in a temporary shutdown of various industries including automotive. Due to this, the supply and demand cycle has been severely disrupted.

Although the Indian Govt has now given certain relaxations enabling various industries and businesses to resume operations, the lockdown is still in place and things are far from normal. Consequently, there will be a shortage in the supply of components at least for the coming few months.

KTM and Husqvarna have been affected by the erratic supply. Once the existing stock at the dealerships is exhausted, customers will need to face long waiting periods which will vary from model to model.

Below is the model-wise expected waiting period for KTM and Husqvarna bikes:

Model Expected Waiting Period
KTM 125 Duke, KTM RC 125 30 days
KTM 200 Duke, KTM RC 200 45 days
KTM 250 Duke, KTM 390 Duke, KTM RC 390, KTM 390 Adventure 60 days
Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 45 days
Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 90 days

Apart from the problems in the supply chain, another reason behind the long waiting periods is that KTM has got a big export backlog because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Austrian company exports around 5,000 bikes per month. At present, the production plants in India are not running at their full capacity. So, the brand will have to manage export as well as domestic demands from the current output.

BS-VI compliant KTM Duke and RC range launched - Prices, Specs & Features Inside https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-compliant-ktm-duke-and-rc-range-launched-all-you-need-to-know-p319611 Thu, 30 Jan 2020 10:53:04 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319611 KTM has updated its domestic street-motorcycle portfolio to meet the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. The motorcycles have received new sportier looking decals across the range, and the 200 Duke has even been given a major makeover. The BS-VI price hike at KTM ranges from INR 3,328 to INR 10,496.

Let’s take a look at KTM 2020 BS-VI motorcycle range.

2020 KTM 390 Duke

Bs Vi 2020 Ktm 390 Duke
New on the 2020 KTM 390 Duke is a bi-directional quick-shifter.

The 2020 KTM 390 Duke will be retailed in two new colour options, Silver Metallic & Ceramic White. Also new on the street-naked motorcycle is a bi-directional quick shifter, a feature already offered on the recently launched KTM 390 Adventure. Besides that, the existing features of ride-by-wire, slipper clutch, dual-channel ABS, TFT instrumentation, and LED headlamp have been retained.

Powering the 390 Duke is the same 373.3 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled mill which produces an unchanged 43.5 PS of power and 37 Nm of torque. The motorcycle now weighs 163 kg (wet, without fuel). The 2020 KTM 390 Duke has been priced at INR 2,52,928, up from INR 2,48,212 - a hike of INR 4,716 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

2020 KTM 250 Duke

Bs Vi 2020 Ktm 250 Duke
The 2020 KTM 250 Duke gains a dual-channel ABS.

One of KTM’s most value for money offering, the 250 Duke, will now be retailed in Silver Metallic & Dark Galvano colour options. Unlike the 390 Duke, this quarter-litre motorcycle misses out on ride-by-wire and LED headlamp but retains the assist and slipper clutch. Brakes too are the same 320 mm disc up front and 230 mm unit at the rear, assisted by a dual-channel ABS.

The engine is the same 248.8 cc unit which produces an unchanged 30 PS of power and 24 Nm of torque. The bike tips the scales at 161.9 kg (wet, without fuel). The Austrian motorcycle maker has priced the BS-VI 250 Duke at INR 2,00,576, up from INR 1,97,248 - an increase of INR 3,328 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

2020 KTM 200 Duke

Bs Vi 2020 Ktm 200 Duke
The 2020 KTM 200 Duke gets its first major update since its introduction in 2012.

KTM has finally given the 200 Duke a much-needed makeover. The motorcycle had earlier retained the same look, minus a few colour and decal changes, since its introduction in India way back in July 2012. Its new form has borrowed design cues from the KTM 1290 Super Duke R. The motorcycle now comes fitted with a new, lightweight, steel trellis frame. Besides that, the overall stance gains a new larger fuel tank and headlamp. The former has an increased fuel capacity of 13.5 litres from the current 10.2 litres.

KTM claims that this increase in fuel tank capacity has increased the 200 Duke’s range by 30 percent from a single tankful of petrol. The BS-VI compliant 2020 KTM 200 Duke is now fitted with a dual-channel ABS instead of a single-channel unit doing duty in the outgoing BS-IV model. Colour options for the motorcycle now includes Electronic Orange & Ceramic White.

Its 199.5 cc engine produces the same 25 PS of class-leading power and 19.3 Nm of torque. The KTM 200 Duke BS-VI has received the highest price bump of INR 10,496 due to the major design changes. It now costs INR 1,72,749, up from INR 1,62,253 (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

2020 KTM 125 Duke and 2020 KTM RC 125

Bs Vi 2020 Ktm 125 Duke
KTM has not brought any major visual changes in the 125 Duke.

The 125 Duke and RC 125, the smallest machines in KTM’s Indian portfolio, get a new belly pan like the 200 Duke and 250 Duke. This allows the motorcycles to house the bigger catalytic converter which helps in making these motorcycles BS-VI compliant. While the naked 125 Duke retains the same colours and decals, the fully-faired RC 125 gets a gloss-white colour scheme with an orange coloured fuel tank and new graphics.

Bs Vi 2020 Rc 125
BS-VI compliant KTM RC 125 gains a new orange coloured fuel tank.

Both the motorcycles are fitted with a 124.7 cc engine which produces an unchanged 14.5 PS of power and 12 Nm of torque. However, the braking system is the same with only a single-channel ABS on offer. The 125 Duke tips the scales at 141.4 kg, while the RC 125 weighs 154.2 kg (both wet weight without fuel). Besides that, the naked motorcycle also gets a larger 10.5-litre fuel tank as compared to the faired motorcycle’s 9.5-litre unit.

The BS-VI compliant KTM 125 Duke is priced at INR 1,38,041 up from INR 1,32,500 which is a difference of INR 5,541. In comparison, the BS-VI RC 125 costs INR 1,55,277 up by INR 6,527 from INR 1,48,750. All prices here are ex-showroom, Delhi).

2020 KTM RC 200

Bs Vi 2020 Ktm Rc 200
The 2020 KTM RC 200 is one of the most striking-looking motorcycles in the Austrian bikemaker's BS-VI lot.

Unlike its naked sibling, the 2020 KTM RC 200 retains the same bodywork as its BS-IV version. However, it comes in a new attractive orange and black paint scheme. The fully-faired motorcycle, though now comes with a dual-channel ABS as standard. It now tips the scales at 154.4 kg (wet, without fuel). Other features like projector headlamps, LCD instrumentation remains the same.

The 199.5 cc engine produces an unchanged 25 PS of power and 19.2 Nm of torque. Its fuel tank is a small 9.5-litre unit, same as that of the entire RC range. The 2020 KTM RC 200 has been priced at INR 1,96,768, up from INR 1,90,630 - a hike of INR 6,138 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

2020 KTM RC 390

Bs Vi 2020 Ktm Rc 390
KTM has replaced the orange alloy wheels for black coloured units in the RC 390.

The flagship fully-faired RC 390, too, gets a cosmetic update as it moves to BS-VI compliance. The motorcycle now comes in a black and white colour option which screams sophistication. However, the BS-VI KTM RC 390 black wheels instead of orange wheels. Key features include projector headlamps, slipper clutch and ride by wire which it gained in 2017.

KTM’s RC 390 now tips the scales at 166.8 kg (wet, without fuel). However, the fuel tank is the same 9.5-litre unit. Sadly, though, the BS-VI compliant KTM RC 390 misses out on a bi-directional quick shifter which is present in its naked sibling. Well, a supersports-styled motorcycle not getting a quick-shifter and a street naked getting the same certainly raises some questions.

The 2020 KTM RC 390's prices start at INR 2,48,075, up by INR 4,061. In comparison, the outgoing BS-IV compliant variant of the motorcycle was priced at INR 2,44,014 (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
